VLSI Design today is the most happening field in Electronics. This is a highly specialized field that has the power of integrating billions of transistors on a Silicon Chip.
To design a chip we usually write a code to a chip. These are of two types :ASIC and FPGA (mostly).ASIC stands for Application specific Integrated Circuits(ASIC) are a specialized integrated circuits which are programmed and reprogramming is not possible. Coming to Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) these are the integrated circuits which can be re-programmable depending on the application.
There might be a question ,how these integrated circuits are programmed?
The answer for this is ,there are two hardware descriptive languages through which the ICs can be programmed.They are VHDL and VERILOG HDL.
VHDL stands for V(very high speed integrated circuit)Hardware Descriptive Language and VERILOG Hardware Descriptive Language. These two languages are used to program an IC.
VHDL is intended for describing and modeling a digital system at various levels and is an extremely complex language compared to VERILOG.
Most of the FPGA chips are designed using VERILOG in present days .
So everyone who are interested can go through VHDL and VERILOG.

CAREER opportunities in VLSI domain
                     Every one has a misconcept that getting in to a VLSI job is tougher and it takes long time to with stand in it and comparing with IT industry the salary hike will be slower .
                    I have an answer for this .After getting in to a job of VLSI design ,the salaries will be less as the freshers may take time to involve in the programming . It takes atleast 1 to 2 years to establish a good strength in programming ,after that the job will be enjoyable.
The starting range of salaries may be around 15000 to 25000 apart. Till 2 years of your job experience their won't be any considerable hike in the salary .But after 2 years of experience the salary hike will be triple than the present salary ,thats the magic in VLSI job . And this hike will continue as the number of years going on increasing . No IT company will have such a hike with in 2 years of experience . So choose the best . choice is yours !
HOW TO GET READY TO JOIN A COURSE FOR VLSI DIPLOMA ?
                                          For joining a VLSI diploma its not necessary to be ready with something but learning something before will always help to learn the concepts in a faster manner.So to get ready to enter a diploma its better to be thorough with some digital design concepts and it helps a lot.
                                     
C-DAC a centre for VLSI diploma in INDIA 

       Centre for Development of  Advanced Computing has set up the Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS) to meet the ever-increasing skilled manpower requirements of IT industry.

These provide various courses ,one among them is VLSI design. C-DAC conducts entrance exam twice a year to select students for the various courses offered. The duration of the course will be of 4 months.This is one of the best place to have a VLSI diploma .C-DAC pune is very famous for their R&D and even the first super computer was developed their itself.

The question rises how to prepare for C-DAC and when was the exam and how to apply for this?
               For the date and the procedure will be updated in my blog when the notification has released.
The questions for the exam are mostly depend on digital design ,C language,communications.
              By preparing the questions at end of the units  of Digital Design by Marris Mano is very helpful for the exam. 
How to get in to an VLSI company after B.TECH?
                      Many of the students interested in VLSI jobs but don't know how to get in to it.
Most the VLSI companies go for IITs and NITs to recruit .Other than these no VLSI company will come for an campus interviews to recruit students .
                          Since every VLSI company wont waste their time in training students for their job ability .They select directly who has already learnt VHDL and VERILOG HDL. As i previously explained about these languages in my blog, these can be learnt through various institutes offering VLSI diploma courses across INDIA. Their are many institutes which offer these coursewith a duration of  6 months .Most of the institutes are at BANGALORE and also in HYDERABAD.

Also ,most of the VLSI companies are tied up with a contract with those institutes to recruit the VLSI diploma holders directly .So its better to check the background of the institutes and the companies tied up with those institutes before joining.

In the curriculum of those institutes who offer VLSI diploma mostly consists of VHDL,VERILOG and SYSTEM VERILOG. Learning these helps you to get a job in any of the VLSI companies.
